STOCKTON — Dozens of people rappelled down the historic Medico Dental Tower in downtown Stockton on Friday and Saturday as part of a fundraiser that generated well over $100,000 for the Community Hospice Foundation.

The Over the Edge for Community Hospice Drop Zone Festival was a two-day event that featured vendors, food trucks and the opportunity for 85 people to rappel from the top of the 12-story building on North Sutter Street. Organizers said the first-year event raised about $130,000 for Community Hospice.

If you’re adventurous enough — or certifiable enough — to rappel off the 12-story Medico-Dental Building, the folks at Ten Space and Community Hospice have just the event for you.

The two are partnering for an “exhilarating” fundraiser on Oct. 28 and 29. For $1,000 apiece, 90 people can descend the sheer side of Stockton’s iconic high-rise by rope.

“Sure, this is crazy, but a lot of people told us trying to develop downtown Stockton was crazy, too,” said David Garcia, the Director of Community Development for Ten Space, an urban building firm.

Fundraiser for Modesto’s Community Hospice Foundation will give the brave a 12-story story to tell

Community Hospice Foundation hopes people will go to great heights to support its cause – and then go back down, by rappelling the side of a 12-story building.

The Modesto-based nonprofit has opened registration for Over the Edge, an Oct. 28-29 event with a goal of raising $150,000 for Community Hospice.

Individuals and teams – “edgers,” as organizers are calling them – are asked to raise a minimum amount of money in exchange for the opportunity to rappel the Medico Dental Tower on Sutter Avenue near the Stockton waterfront.
