DeSha McLeod appointed to NANOE’s 2018 Board of Governors

Washington D.C. – 07/27/2018 –The National Association of Nonprofit Organizations and Executives (NANOE) is pleased to announce the appointment of DeSha McLeod to NANOE’s prestigious 2018 Board of Governors. McLeod has been called upon to refine, improve, and strengthen New Guidelines for Tomorrow’s Nonprofit (Second Edition) a new set of governing guidelines that supercharge nonprofit capacity-building.

NANOE National Director, Tracy Ebarb, shared, “DeSha has joined a working group that will peer-review a new set of capacity-building guidelines rooted in principles of moral agency, stewardship, freedom of speech, freedom of peaceful assembly, ethical practice, and transparency that supercharge charity. DeSha is one of society’s guardians who use their expertise to ensure everyone experiences a life worth living.”

NANOE’s Nominations Committee was co-chaired by Bishop Redfern II, Charlotte Berry, Kathleen Robinson & Tracy Ebarb. Nominees were suggested by members of AFP, CFRE, AHP, ASAE, CASE, United Way, National Development Institute, Nonprofit Associations, Industry Associations, and other local and national leaders.

McLeod will be honored alongside fellow Governors March 26-27, 2019 in Charleston, SC at NANOE’s Annual Board of Governors Convention & Expo.

NANOE is our Nation’s only unifying legislative body comprised of Governors nominated from all 50 United States who oversee the codification of guidelines that govern sound charitable practice.

La Bella Notte It Was! Community Hospice Foundation Celebrates 17th Annual Gala

Modesto, Calif. (May 24, 2018)–On May 19, 2018 over 600 community members gathered at the home of Jessica and Greg Coleman in Ripon, California for the 17th Annual Community Hospice Foundation Gala. Guests enjoyed Live and Silent Auctions, a raffle, appetizers and dinner by Chef Michael Midgley and dancing to The Nines, a band made up of local folks.

Several community members were recognized for their dedicated service and support in advancing the organization’s mission. Mary Ann Wood was awarded the John and June Rogers Philanthropic Award. Mary Ann embodies the heart of hospice by giving and raising funds to assure that the mission of Community Hospice continues, regardless of the patient’s or family’s ability to pay. The Julio R. and Aileen Gallo Leadership Award was awarded to Claudia and Mick Krausnick for their passionate commitment and enthusiastic leadership. The Harold A. Peterson, III Heart of Hospice Award was presented to Friends of Community Hospice member, Pat Saunders for her long-standing commitment to the mission of Community Hospice.

Past camper Zibby Madill shared her story and camp experience prior to kicking off this year’s Cash for the Cause to raise needed funds to support Camp Erin of the Central Valley. A generous anonymous donor agreed to make a $50,000 donation match if the Cash for the Cause raised more than $50,000. Thanks to our generous community, Cash for the Cause raised over $108,000 to support many children in our community who have experienced a loss.

Community Hospice Foundation Executive Director, Monica Ojcius said, “We are thrilled with the outcome of our 17th Annual Gala; it was truly La Bella Notte! It is humbling to know so many people from our community support the mission of Community Hospice. We would not be able to provide the service and programs offered without the generosity of our community, we are very grateful.”

The La Bella Notte Gala was a great success raising more than $350,000 to support the patients, families and programs of Community Hospice.

New Medicare Cards Coming This Year

Starting this April, Medicare will be issuing new cards that no longer contain Social Security Numbers. The new cards will have new Medicare Beneficiary Identifiers (MBIs) instead of Social Security Number (SSN)-based Health Insurance Claim Numbers (HICNs) to help protect the identities of people with Medicare. The new card won’t change your coverage or benefits. You’ll get more information from Medicare when your new card is mailed. In the state of California, Medicare cards will be mailed in May 2018.

Here’s how you can get ready:
■ Make sure your mailing address is up to date. If your address needs to be
corrected, contact Social Security at ssa.gov/myaccount or 1-800-772-1213.
TTY users can call 1-800-325-0778.

■ Beware of anyone who contacts you about your new Medicare card. We’ll
never ask you to give us personal or private information to get your new
Medicare Number and card.

■ Understand that mailing everyone a new card will take some time. Your card
might arrive at a different time than your friend’s or neighbor’s.

3 Things to Know
1. People who are enrolling in Medicare for the first time will be among the first in the country to receive the new cards.

2. Your new card will automatically come to you. You don’t need to do anything as long as your address is up to date. If you need to update your address, visit your My Social Security account.

3. Once you get your new Medicare card, destroy your old Medicare card and start using your new card right away.

Community Hospice’s Fantasy of Trees Event Shines at the Gallo Center for the Arts

Modesto, CA (December 1, 2017 – December 2, 2017) – Beautiful designer decorated trees, wreaths and centerpieces filled the Gallo Center for the Arts lobby during the Friends of Community Hospice’s annual Fantasy of Trees Luncheon and Santa Shares Breakfast fundraiser. Fantasy of Trees started the weekend off Friday morning with champagne, a catered lunch, boutiques of local artisans and an opportunity to bid on gorgeous decorated trees, wreathes and centerpieces all designed by local community members.

The fun at the Gallo Center for the Arts continued on Saturday with a special visit from Santa and Mrs. Claus at Santa Shares Breakfast. “Santa Shares Breakfast is personally one of my favorites events,” mentions Monica Ojcius the Executive Director of the Community Hospice Foundation. “We gave over 130 tickets to this event to families in need to ensure no household goes without some holiday cheer”. Santa Shares Breakfast featured a family breakfast, children’s holiday crafts, dancers from the Central West Ballet Nutcracker and a photo with Santa and Mrs. Claus.

Proceeds from this event went to support the children and families of Community Hospice’s Gabriel’s Friends Pediatric Palliative Care Program.

Community Hospice Joins the Global #GivingTuesday Movement

MODESTO, CA (November 7, 2017) – Community Hospice, has joined #GivingTuesday, a global day of giving that harnesses the collective power of individuals, communities and organizations to encourage philanthropy and to celebrate generosity worldwide. Occurring this year on November 28, #GivingTuesday is held annually on the Tuesday after Thanksgiving (in the US) and the widely recognized shopping events Black Friday and Cyber Monday to kick off the holiday giving season and inspire people to collaborate in improving their local communities and to give back in impactful ways to the charities and causes they support.
